Welcome

Hi I’m Bianca and I love sharing everything home grown and low tox on our land. I grew up on the land in Country Victoria in Australia and had a beautiful childhood surrounded by farm land and animals, to look after and love. There are 4 children in my family and I am the 3rd. Growing up we always had animals. I remember my grandpa dropping off a potty calf to us in the back of his panel van. The potty calf grew to be quit a big boy and eventually was placed in our freezer much to my sister and my disgust. I now understand how import home grown meat is for our health and well-being.

Over the years, I have had many pets in my life, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, horses, calves, lambs, birds and chickens. I always found comfort from my animals and if I ever had a problem, I would just go and chat to my dog or horse for as long as it took. They always just listened. As an adult, I can now watch my children play with their pets and am helping them understand the responsibilities which come with being a pet owner. We have had many beautiful animals in and out of our lives over the years, however my childhood pony (Copper) and childhood blind coolie dog (Motley of 17years) and Case the border collie my husband and I got together have very special places in my heart. Our animals are part of our family everyone with their unique personally and traits!

Growing up I was also exposed to vegetable gardening, by several close family friends. I remember going to Barb, Mum’s friend’s house and she showed us how to milk a cow and make butter and cream out of the milk. They ran a sheep farm and had chickens an orchard and a vegie garden. I think my love of the beautiful border collies also came from seeing their working dogs. Bruce one of dad’s friends always gave us boxes of fresh produce from his vegetable patch. I can only now really understand the amazing gesture this was, over so many years after growing my own vegetables. I wish, I could turn back the clock and have spent more time in Bruce’s garden with him. I’m sure I would of learn ’t so many important aspects of vegetable gardening and soil health.

As soon as my husband and I got our own place together I started growing tomatoes in our back yard. Every house we moved to, I had to set up a vegetable garden somewhere. I remember setting snail beer traps for the first time when we lived in Portland. I had never seen so many snails and slugs. My most enjoyable garden was when we lived in Porepunkah in the North East of Victoria, rain fall was high and it was the first time I had introduced chickens into our patch. This proved to be very successful for bugs and also being able to compost and use the chicken manure on our garden beds. I grew the biggest sunflowers and pumpkins one season they were amazing!

I now teach gardening at two schools and manage 2 massive vegetable gardens and orchards. My role now is to educate students on how to produce and prepare food for their plates. I also teach Agriculture to year 9 students and VET Animal Care cert 2. My husband and I have several breeding Merino Ewes and he runs an agriculture business which I help him with at times. We have several Australia Kelpie working dogs and my husband trains them and also runs classes for others to learn how to also. I love what I do and love educating the next generation about animal care and also producing fruit and vegetables.
